Marriage, Weddings & Divorce in Gambia is regulated by either customary, Shari’a (Muslim), or general law.

Customary law covers  Christian wedding ceremonies and covers inheritance, land tenure, tribal and clan leadership, as well as other relationships.

Shari’a law is primarily for Muslim weddings and covers Islamic marriage and divorce.

General law is based on British law.
